Steve, for 2005 for people over 50, I'm pretty sure the
limit is $4500 each. See for example:

Be careful of the income restrictions, like the other
posters are saying. Your wife would have to have at least
$9000 of income.

As long as your wife has more than $7,000 in earned income, yes.

Yes, but the total IRA contribution can't exceed total employment
income. Tax deductibility depends on income.

I have been umemployed the last 12 months (all of 2005). My wife does
not have a retirement program at work. Can we both contribute 3,500
(over 50) to our individual IRA's for 2005?
