I've been told on several occasions that my FICO score is lower than it
could be because I only have a single credit card (and I pay it off
every month).

In general, however, I think that worrying about small changes in one's
credit score is a waste of time. Unless the OP is planning on applying
for a mortgage in the next month or so, he should simple manage his
financial/credit situation well, and the score will take care of itself.

The transfer should not affect FICO much. You will still
have the same credit limit, same credit to income ratio,
and same % of credit used. But if you don't need the credit,
then why have it? It could just be a problem waiting to
happen.

Default Credit Line Transfer impact on FICO score

I have a credit card with credit line of 5000 and another one with
credit line of 8500. When I called my credit card company to close the
second one (with $8500 credit line), I was suggested that this credit
line can be transferred to the first card (with $5000) before 2nd
account is closed.
2nd card was opened for 18 months and never been used once.
1st card was opened for 4 years and I use it regularly.

I do not have any outstanding balance.

Would credit line transfer affect my FICO score?
Would I be better off just by closing 2nd card instead of credit line
transfer and close?

Thanks ..
