(a) Knowing the proper newsgroup to post
a question like this. HINT -- this ain't it.

(b) Having something people will actually
want to buy

(c) Knowing how to sell it to them using
the resources you have at hand (e.g. Do
you have enough cash and other resources
to actually produce your product/service)

(d) Almost superhuman perserverance -- don't
ever give up.

(e) ???

(f) !!PROFIT!!

(g) retire.

And don't plan on having enough money to just get you through until the
business turns a profit. My business has been turning a profit for
almost three years now, but still isn't producing enough to pay all of
my bills as well. When you plan, make sure that you find enough
resources to get you through to a point where the business is paying
you something liveable.
