Thanks for your kind comments - always use a dictionary when you sit
down to read. The idea is to never go past a word you do not fully
understand. The "new" words are easy (you know you don't know them).
What you want to watch out for are the "Gee, I guess I know what that
means" words, or the "Yeah, I've seen that word before" words. Make
sure you understand. You can also just sit down and look up words
associated with a subject as these pop into your mind. It isn't the
ideas or concepts of a subject that create confusion - it's
misunderstood words. If the material gets confusing, go back and look
for misunderstood words (even if you have to go back to childhood).

Best to you, it sounds like you're going to do well!

Hello,everyone
Thanks so much for your kind replies..I feel sad that i didn't get to
read all your replies till now..As a fool i was, i only checked this
site the next following day and assumed that ppl wouldn't pay attention
to this and simply gave up
I am currently not up for any specific stock yet...as Dapperdobbs has
pointed out, I should pick up a book and understand the basic
principles, which is the biggest barrier to me. I was simply defeated
by all the terms and codes they use, felt like that i could never
understand This is also why i sought help through the internet.
Anyway, here I am! Thanks again for your time and concern and i will
have to pick up the book that Dapperdobbs recommnended and read through
every single word..
To OPtimystiK_one
I am from Kirkland, WA..
Thank you

One of the books to read is "The Intelligent Investor", first published
in 1934 as "Security Analysis". Use a dictionary and make sure you
never read past a word you do not fully understand ... I've looked up
even basic words like "accounting, account, money, dividend,
investment, cash", and so forth.

Some people liken "investing" to "gambling" .... In gambling, the odds
are in favor of the house, yet pro gamblers play the odds and manage
better than break even; in investing, the odds are in your favor, the
cards are all face-up on the table, and you get to choose which ones
you want in your hand. Pro gamblers work hard at understanding the
odds, and only play when they know them cold. So, in investing, you
have to work to understand the basic principles - there's a learning
curve, but it's not all that hard. When you know the basics, read the
annual reports. Time is your friend.

I'll check back to see if you reply.

I'd like to get in on a place like that. I've been investing for several
years and have had some good 'luck' and some very bad. I usually
subscribe to newsletters but find they don't live up to their hype.
There was a discussion group on investing but it disbanded for some
reason.

Just post your questions here and someone will most likely reply. Also
try misc.invest.mutual-funds.

Default Anybody wants to share xp with stock/bond ?

Hello, everybody,
I am a complete green hand to stock or any kind of investment. Recently
i started to read books regarding to stocks and bonds, and have a
strong desire to learn and know more. Is there a place where people can
talk regularly and share experience; where people can seek for help?
It would be wonderful if there is somebody i can write to and talk to
regarding to investing issues...
Thanks for your reading
-Sonya
