It's Bethapage Credit Union on Long Island. I believe you have to be a
resident of Long Island to join, but you can call for more info.
Here's the website:

Would you mind sharing the name of the bank that's offering this rate?

I agree with Rich C.: Expected hikes are certainly not completely built into
today's CD rates.

I have a CD ladder that I've been constructing for the last year or so. As a
result, I check CD rates at least once a week. When the Fed has announced a
hike, CD rates generally go up within a day or so.

On the other hand, 4% is an exceptional rate for a 6-month CD right now. The
average nationwide for a 6-month CD is about 2.7%, according to
www.bankrate.com , and the highest it claims exists right now is paying 3.88
APY.

I would buy the 6-month CD at 4% now. It's only six months, after all, and I
doubt the bank that is offering this deal will change this rate much, if at
all, if rates go up next week. It's possible this bank may even lower its
6-month rate, to be more consistent with other banks' offerings.

A good point. However, if "everyone" is expecting the hike, why
don't banks raise their prime rate now, instead of waiting for
the announcement "everyone" knows is coming, etc.? :-)

Default Wait until Fed meeting to buy CD?

I am interested in putting my money into a 6 month CD with a 4.00% APY.
My question is should I hold off until the Fed meeting next week, where
everyone is expecting a 1/4% increase in the Fed fund rate?

Since "everyone" includes the bank managers who set CD rates, based
largely on anticipated Fed actions, I doubt that waiting a week will
make a difference.
