| Why does an investor need SIPC insurance if their account is over $500,000 at a major Broker Dealer like JP Morgan or Merrill Lynch? I may be wrong, but, the way I understand it, the clients assets are segregated from the companies assets so if a firm had financial difficulty, that is with THEIR assets, NOT client assets. Also, is there any difference in the safety of a client's account if the account is a margin or non-margin account if the client is not borrowing any money against the assets? Thanks, Jimmy |
