| There will not be a penalty on the money if you roll the money to an IRA and then convert it to a Roth. Income taxes will be due, however, but no penalty. |

| It is possible if the plan allows partial in-service withdrawals. I doubt it if Vanguard is running it. You'd have to roll it into a traditional IRA and then recharacterize it and pay the tax. | Hi, I currently have a 401K set up with Vanguard. I want to put some money into an IRA, specifically a Roth IRA. Is it possible for me to move some money from my 401K to an IRA which is run by Vanguard? Would I have to pay the 20% tax fee for moving the money early? Thanks |
