| Scott Burns, the financial writer in the Dallas Morning News recently proposed several portfolios, composed mostly of low-cost index funds. Check them out on his web site: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...153f93882.html and http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...15ffddd1b.html The portfolios in the first article use mutual funds, and the second article adds ETFs. | In about 4 weeks I will be transitioning from one company to another as part of a takeover agreement. As a result, I will need to do something with the approx $108k in the 401(k) and cash-balance pension accounts of my current employer. All of the money is fully vested and I plan to roll it into an IRA. I am looking for suggestions as to how to best invest this money for long-term retirement goals. Some additional info about me: - 27 years old, would not need to access IRA until at least age 60 - no debt other than modest home mortgage - $7k in existing Vanguard Roth IRA (wellesley fund - which I realize is too conservative for me) - $10k in credit union money market acct (emergency cash fund) - $10k in scottrade account (for speculation/gambling) - $5k in company stock (a fortune-10 company) Any advice on what to do with the $108k rollover would be appreciated! I'm probably looking to go with Vanguard or Fidelity mutual funds, but I'm interested in hearing any/all ideas. Thanks! |
