Some ideas: * I don't think it would turn up here but try your state's unclaimed property department. http://www.naupa.org/ Do NOT let anyone charge you to search for unclaimed property, it's free. * you have a lead already in the "bought out several times" - when a company is bought out it still exists, it just is absorbed into the new one - what was the last purchase? * if you don't know, call the state where the company was based, or look on the web site if you have that, and trace the company's history. Where to look depends on the state but a good start would be the Secretary of State's office if there is one you can reach. Just keep calling until you find the gov't agency that handles corporate filings. When companies are bought out of existence, go bankrupt, whatever, there's a filing that can be traced that tells you what happened. * enormous long shot: visit ww.aboutmyletter.com and call that company. They track down "lost" pension account holders for some companies and who knows maybe yours is one of them * do you really have not a single statement from your old 401k? Whatever company actually ran your plan would know what happened to it. See, here's another reason NEVER to sign up for "e-statements" (not that that was what happened but imagine how many people are going to be in this predicament when they don't get any paper statements). -Tad |

Can you locate or recall the names of any of your former coworkers atthe old company? One of them might have some more information, such as the name of the 401K custodian company. John Cowart |

Do you have an old statement? If not, then you are pretty> After 7 years passed, I tried to recover or collect my 401K from old > employer. > Unfortunately I don't have any information available about my old 401K. well out of luck. Perhaps you can look up an old co-worker or someone in the HR group that worked at the old company. You need to get the name of the company that held the 401K. How about old phone bills? Do you have your old tax returns? Maybe you have some clues on your old W-2's. If not, then you just learned an expensive lesson about what happens when you don't keep track of things like this. -john- -- ================================================== ==================== John A. | This is from my old, old, and old company I used to work in 7 years ago. I had a 401K back then. Somehow I was so lazy to take care of it. After 7 years passed, I tried to recover or collect my 401K from old employer. However the company has been bought out several times, the company no longer exists. In this case, where can I locate my 401K? Unfortunately I don't have any information available about my old 401K. Is there anyway to find out by my social security number or anything else? (yeah... I know I have been pretty stupid... -- ![]() |
