Default Re: Firstrade Brokerage

Scottrade's web site today says the commission is $7 regardless of whether
it's a market order or limit order. Nor is there any account balance
requirement. The one Scottrade restriction that might be noteworthy is
penny stock trading: For stocks under $1, the commission is $7 + 1/2% of
principal.

For those wanting more comprehensive service: Fidelity this past week
lowered its stock trade commission to $10.95/trade (market and limit),
assuming one has $100k in Fidelity accounts.

I wouldn't worry based just on the commission. Scottrade is
highly respected, and they are $7. But keep in mind that this
only applies to market orders. If you want to put in a limit
order, the fee nearly doubles. I know that I most often use
limit orders to try to gain an extra quarter point on the
sell, or save a quarter on the buy.

Default Firstrade Brokerage

I am thinking of moving to Firstrade given that mutual fund trades,
including Vanguard, are free. What bothers be is that their fees seem so
cheap, only $6.99 per trade. Has anyone had experience with this company
that you wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks in advance
