Default Re: Chosing Financial Advisors?

There is no black and white answer. What are you comfortable with?

Given the amount of assets you have, may direct you.

Many % based planners want about 250k minimum of investable assets to work
with.

Some other observations:

Being charged by the hour can get expensive, given what kind of work you
need to do.

Planners that charge a mix of fees and commissions can be efficient, but be
careful of who the planner works for, if they aren't independent when you
look at the recommendations you will probably see a tilt towards their
master, Go look at the current American Express thread for an example of the
problem.

Commission base planners are okay, but again they are going steer you
towards products that pay them. It's like real estate, the broker works for
the seller not the buyer.

Do it you-it yourself, if you enjoy reading about the different products and
studying the different methods of investing, its a choice. If you won't
commit a couple of hours a week to this, then getting help makes sense.

Do nothing, it is a choice.

Default Chosing Financial Advisors?

Are financial advisors who manage assets and charge a % of the total
assets are preferred over the financial advisors who charge per/hour?
Any advise on selecting one over the other would be greatly
appreciated. Any pros/cons of either? Thanks.
