| New York State has a program called NY State Partnership for Long Term Care. If you do not live in NY, you can not get it. But, there is lots of great info about Long Term Care insurance at the web site. http://www.nyspltc.org/ -- ------------------------ Ed J edj22 at attglobal dot net Do not reply to default 'reply' address. A couple of years ago my husband and I purchased a joint policy, with survivor benefits. I have been told this option of the survivor benefits is very unusual, but it was the clause that sold the contract. In essence, it will pay a monthly sum for either one or both of us, depending on our needs. The premium is quite reasonable. If you are interested in contacting the agent from whom I bought the policy, who is licensed to practice in all 50 states, feel free to e-mail me. I tried posting his address once, but my post was refused, and I am assuming it is still the case. (In this regard, I find it interesting that so many links are accepted for posting, including those in which business is solicited, but this link was refused.) Elizabeth Richardson |

You have allready started.> insurance, aside from car insurance and some small policies provided > by my employer, is a small policy my parents bought for me when I was > a child from Prudential. An excellent company, not neccessarily the best deal in town - quote - > Can I even buy LTC insurance for my parents? Or do they need to buy
Yes, you can "buy" it for them, although THEY must complete the application.> it themselves? The writing agent must SEE the applicants, and the Carrier may require a medical or paramedic exam. In any event, they WILL contact your parents doctors etc. You can be the "OWNER" and Premium Payor for the policy/policies. Now, as what to buy ! ! ! ! LTC is primarily a contract that will provide DOLLARS at a specific point in time, under specific conditions. There are two types of people who do NOT need LTC. People who are very rich, and have sufficient resources to cover all of their needs, and people who have very little money, as "uncle sugar" will take care of their needs via MEDICAID........... Middle class people do need LTC, to make sure that they have sufficient resources to take car of their needs. LTC comes in three (3) basic flavors: (a) Nursing Home Care (b) Home Care and (c) Comprehensive care that covers all LTC needs. Of course, the costs are commensurate with the benefits that will be available. There are many factors that will determine the type of coverage your folks will need: Longevity - family medical history - personal medical history - desire for peace of mind & protection - and last but not least, FINANCE.... | I'm interested in looking into purchasing long term care insurance for both of my parents. Unfortunately, I have no clue where to start! My only experience with insurance, aside from car insurance and some small policies provided by my employer, is a small policy my parents bought for me when I was a child from Prudential. I do not have any other life insurance, but I don't think I need any (no dependents, no debt, etc). My Prudential policy will cover my burial. But this isn't about me. Anyhow, where to start? What are the best companies? I mention Prudential only because I am slightly (very slightly) familiar with them. Any advice? Can I even buy LTC insurance for my parents? Or do they need to buy it themselves? Any help is appreciated! -- Michael Loll |
