They are added to your cost basis. If you pay $50 for 100 shares of stock
and a commission of $7. your cost for the stock is $5,007.00. If you sell
the stock for a gain you would then subtract the $5007.00 plus the
commission for the sale to get your taxable gain.

That's how I do it here in the U.S. but I have no knowledge of the tax laws
in Canada.

It's the "in Canada" part, most mifp readers are in the US.

In the US stock commissions are added into your purchase price, and
subtracted from your sales proceeds, when figuring your capital gains or
losses on a stock sale.

But I have no idea how it works up north...and for all I know the
mounties will come knocking on my door just for typing that.
