Considering that that was the worst streach in the market since
the panic of 1879, you are doing pretty good. The market is a
long term investment. You might not see much for years, but you
keep accumulating shares. When the 6 month period comes along
where those shares have a good run, you will see dramatic growth.
But you have to be in the game to win.

No, not unless you are planning to eat your house when you retire.
You need to save money for retiremen, or you will end up living off
of government hand-outs and charity.

The best thing you can do is re-fi your mortgage. Rates are way
down again, and you could save a ton of money on a monthly basis,
or shorten the loan term by getting a 15 year loan, and not pay
any more.

Default Pay down mortgage or continue with 403B (TSA) or a little of both?

Hi,
I need a little help with this issue. I would like to retire in 10
years. I have 20 years left of a 30 year mortgage at 7.25%. I save
$500.00 per month in my work 403B tax sheltered annuity. This gained
nothing this year. Since I started in 2001 it has gained 5.8%.

If I put $400-500 into the mortgage each month, I could save 8-10
years and have it paid off int 10 years.

Do you all think that this is the way to go? I may have to reduce the
savings in the TSA to pay down the mortgage at that rate. I cannot
re-finance to get a lower interest so that is out of the question.

Please share your thoughts with me on this. I am not that good at it,
but my job stability may not be that great.

Thanks,
Ellie
