If you predecease your wife, she may roll the entire amount into an IRA of her
own. When it is in her possession, she may name her own beneficiaries. The
legalities, and separate wills, should be addressed by an attorney in the event
you both pass at the same time.

Default IRA Beneficiaries Questions

I live in Louisiana which is a community property state. All assets
are owned jointly by my wife and I.

In my will I am able to specify that assets go to my children through
a spousal trust (usafruct) which allows my wife to use them until she
dies. Is it possible to specify a spousal trust to be the beneficiary
of my IRA?

Even though my wife "owns" half of my IRA assets, she apparently is
not able to specify a beneficiary. Why not?

Thanks

Frank
