Please don't let John's rude reply give you a negative feeling about the> that I want to invest someplace. Those folks recommended to me Tobias' "The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need". There are also the "Dummies" books - those ugly yellow books which apparently have some good stuff for beginners in them. John was certainly right on with part of his reply, in that before you can invest, you need to decide what it is your investment goal is. Are you saving for a down payment on a house? or for your retirement? or maybe for grad school? Do you want this money to grow, or are you concerned with preservation of principal? I hope others will give you further direction. Elizabeth Richardson |

Kindly redirect replies to jayanthk_stanford[at]hotmail.com that have suggested reading lists. All it takes is a few minutes of work to seek it out. If you are not willing to do at least that much, then there isn't much the rest of us can do to help you out. As far as where to invest $5K? It depends on when you need the money. If it is short-term, pick a CD with the right term, or keep it in a money market account. If it is long term, then put it in an index fund or buy some exchange traded fund stocks from a discount broker, where the ETF's are in an index. Vipers might be a good ETF to check out. -john- -- ================================================== ================== John A.
