The CEO of the NYC-AIFA wrote a nice (if lengthy) response to the
publisher of Newsday. It's over two pages long, so unlikely to get
published. My Company is showing no support to the reps on this
issue, and I can't see where anyone else is responding in kind. I
suppose there are bigger fish to fry then get into a *issing match
with this author. Nevertheless, for a respected journalist to make
such unfair comments, basically calling all insurance reps a bunch of
s**mbags, in *our own backyard*!, and having the Company do nothing at
all, is just demoralizing for everyone. You're right, no backbone at
all.

Rick,

Clearly, the author can't tell an agent and a company apart. He can't even
tell the difference between P&C vs. L&H. Essentially, he's accusing life
agents of something that have absolutely nothing to do with, which is kind
of funny, if you think about it.

The attack on agents is proof positive that he's not the brightest light in
the universe. I have to say I agree, there looked like two buildings to me,
and they fell down because each was hit by one airplane in separate,
although intricately linked terrorist events. I've no quibble there.

The rest is just a hot air filled attack to fill space so he can collect his
paycheck for the week Remember, people like him get paid to write X number
of words per week, and their editors are under pressure to keep the unsold
ad space filled with items that create controversy, thereby increasing
readership.

I think that it would be nice if our trade orgs and the big companies would
use some of their power to chastise, or at least correct, sillyness of this
nature. But that's not likely to happen. We have too many people who are
afraid of their shadow these days.

The people in the world I respect the most are those who draw a line in the
sand, and say NO MORE, and who stand up and say "I'd rather be right, than
be popular" and act according to their principles, instead of what will give
them a few points on the next poll.

They are few, and far between, unfortunately.

Default Ed Lowe Scathing (and ignorant) Commentary in Newsday

Anyone catch Ed Lowe's unfortunate personal attack on insurance
agents? (He's a regional columnist, but fairly well known and
respected on Long Island, AFAIK)

I hope the powers that be (to whom we pay so much in annual dues) take
notice and respond appropriately, perhaps tv ads where beneficiaries
thank god and their insurance agent a death benefit was there when
needed, etc.
