| Before Google bought DejaNews (the original web archiver of usenet feeds), there was a great deal of controversy over who owned the "content" of a usenet post. After all, the archiving sites sell advertising around that content, without paying the author any sort of licensing fee. Archivers agreed to let authors opt-out of the archive. Usenet postings that contain a particular header (I think it's X-No-Archive, or something like that) are not kept in web-based archives. I would imagine that Google still does it that way. It's possible that your newsreader is set to include this header -- that would cause your posts to go out on Usenet via NNTP, but not be captured in web archives like Google. It would be interesting, by the way, to know whether the "solution" is really legal after all. That is, I could say that the content of this post is copyrighted and that I only authorize distribution through NNTP on Usenet. If Google archives it despite that notice, am I entitled to sue for copyright infringement? Food for thought..... | I have had similar problems. My posts to this group never show up in google groups, although any responses to them do. Those very same posts do show up when I use my newsreader at work for reading this newsgroup, so I think at least my problem is google/mifp specific. I don't have this problem with other newgroups. Not sure what may be causing it, though. It has happened to me also, so please don't assume that the post was> posts were not approved and did not appear. not accepted. Hopefully someone will jump in here and explain how this occasionally happens. For the record, the moderators rarely return a post. In those instances where a post is returned, it is usually for reasons due to cross posting, tone (offensive or contentious), off-topic to general personal finance or lack of trimming the post to which you respond. Returned posts are also shown for a few days at http://www.algebra.com/~mifp/ Except for chronic violators, every such post will be returned to the poster. *This assumes the poster is using a working email address.* So if you see nothing and hear nothing for 24 hours, first check the above website promptly (it gets cleaned out twice weekly), then contact the moderators via email. -HW "Skip" Weldon Columbia, SC |
