yes you can change anytime. Sometimes there are penulties for changing
too fast.

yes. vanguard where I have my ira now does. I had it at our local credit
union before that and they had too.

no. IRA money cannot be withdrawn without severe penulties before youre
59.5 yrs old except for certain cases.

fees are minimal. vanguard charges 10$ a yr if your account has <10000$
and none otherwise. scottrade has no fees on ira.

Default open an ira

I want to open an IRA for my retirement savings. I have a few
questions as I am still trying to learn about them.

* What steps would I need to take to opening an roth IRA
* Any companies that members can recommend for opening the IRA and
what questions should I ask them. I read on this forum that first put
money in index funds or a basic MMA in the IRA. I have just 2K to
spare for this year. Will max next year.
* Do the IRA companies allow incremental payments into the account,
like monthly payments or something. Would I be able to view statements
online which shows current balance.
* Would I be allowed to change investment plans during the year or is
it like you choose one plan through the year and you are stuck with
it. I was thinking like choosing aggressive growth till i am 40 and
then conservative or moderate choices after that. (depending on the
market)
* Do you normally have a face or voice to talk to in the company that
you open the IRA with.
* What are the chances of losing investment money?
* Lets say I open IRA tomorrow with 2K and max next year, will I be
able to get access to money in case of emergencies? Is there a fee as
in early withdrawal fees with CDs?
* What about opening accounts with brokers like ameritrade or
sharebuilder? Are they similar to say fidelity or vaguard?
* What about the fees? Can they be waived?
* Do IRAs have transaction fees? Are they similar to transaction fees
when buying individual stocks
* Do these companies recommend investment strategies or are you on
your own?

I guess these are really basic questions and quite a few at that but
thats what this forums is for right?

Thanks for your help.
