And the answer is, it seems to depend on the custodian, but you shouldn't need to create another Roth account. In the beginning they all made you go through as many steps as possible, but the forms have changed over the past couple of years. So your Roth IRA custodian should have a form that allows you to convert your Rollover IRA (or even accept a rollover from that IRA and then convert it, if it's at another custodian right now), putting the assets into your existing Roth. Call them and ask. As long as the paperwork allows it I can't think of a good reason to create another Roth account. -Tad |
