If your posts are rejected, you will get an email indicating
why the post was rejected unless your email address is
munged to fool the spam detectors. But, either way, your
post should show up either on the approved or rejected list at:

http://www.algebra.com/~mifp/

Now, as I noted in another message, if your local mail
server isn't properly configured to forward messages to the
moderation address, then we will never see the message. If
you don't see your message posted *and* it doesn't appear on
either list at the website noted above, then this may very
likely be the problem.

Now, there is a spam filter in place (you wouldn't believe
the amount of automated spam sent to our system), so it's
possible your message might accidentally get trapped by
that--but that shouldn't happen to every message you send.

We generally try and check the posts a number of times
during the day, so if you don't see action within 24 hours,
it's time to check the website and see if there's any record
of your posts there.

It is the nature of moderation--your news server is supposed
to email the post to the moderation address, after which
that message is reviewed by one of the moderators before
being sent out.

Note that even if that happens instantaneously, it's
possible you won't see the post for a while because of how
usenet distributes messages--while the approved messages
will appear immediately on the server on which they are
submitted to by the moderator, it may take a while before
the message can make it to all news servers.

Note that the second transmission posting delay also
happens on unmoderated groups, but since the post first
appears on your local server it *looks* like everything
shows up instantaneously on your server--when, in fact, only
those items posted locally will appear immediately, while
others must propagate through the system as news servers
communicate with each other.

If a post is rejected, you will receive an email about it so
long as you have a valid return email address in your "From"
line--the entity we use to assist in moderation uses
software that doesn't give us an option *not* to respond.
However, if you have "munged" your address to fool spam
harvesters, then the rejection is going to bounce. In that
case, you'll need to check our website at:

http://www.algebra.com/~mifp/

All posts that the moderators have "passed judgment" on are
posted there for a short time.

Now, things can go wrong. If your local newsserver isn't
properly configured to send the message to our moderator
address, we'll never see it. In that case, you may need to
email us at the address on the above website *and* contact
your ISP.

At least one of my submissions was lost recently. But the moderator quickly
posted my second submission when I pointed this out.

The moderator is an unpaid volunteer. One gets what one pays for. So far, I
think Usenetters get a lot out of this moderated newsgroup and at no charge. So
thanks for moderating, whoever you are.

Still, while I'm glad this group is moderated I wish the moderator would
consider one of the programs that uses automated white-listing. Posts appear
much sooner. I hear it's much less work for the moderator...

Default delay in posting?

Ive noticed that unlike unmoderated groups, posts I make to this NG get
delayed by several hours. Are all of you noticing the same thing? Its
annoying to make a post at noon, and not see it show up until early evening
sometimes. Is there anything which can be done to speed this up, or, is this
part and parcel of the way moderated newsgroups work?
