Default 529 virginia college plan

hello,
i'm currently a resident of virginia and am looking into the
American Mutual Funds Virginia 529 savings plan for my young kids.
I've heard great things about AmericanFunds, especially their
performance over the years. I'm told that they are only sold thru
broker/advisors, so I don't mind paying the extra sales charge to the
broker, but I just wanted to hear some opinions on anyone whose had
experience with AmericanFunds.
As a note, I'll be moving to maryland within a few months, so I'm
aware I won't get the tax breaks if i still choose to go with
AmericanFunds rather Maryland's 529 plan which is sponsored by T.Rowe
Price.
