Yes and Yes. With H/E loans at 5% right now, it makes sense to
pay down what you can, and get a H/E loan to cover the rest.
Then work to pay off of the H/E loan before it can adjust much
higher as interest rates go up.

Default PMI Advice

My house appraised at $125,000 not too long ago. I owe $106,000
making my LTV 86.8%. The bank says I need to pay either $8000 or get
my house appraised at $135,000 (probably out of the question right
now.)

Should I pile every extra dollar I can get my grimey hands on into
getting my LTV down to 80%? My PMI is $45/mo, and I have no emergency
savings right now. I hate to keep wasting $45/mo!!! Would a home
equity loan be a smarter choice to get it paid down???
