| TT obviously has no idea what he's talking about. Life insurance can also be used for estate planning purposes. Why else would millionaires take out life insurance? Just because someone recommends that you need life insurance does not mean he's just a insurance salesman. The reason why you might want to get L/I now is because of insurability. And not anyone can call themselves a financial planner. I've run into many people that claim that they are one and yet they don't the know basics of financial planning. It's not a sin to admit that you don't know something. It's foolish to pretend that you do when you really don't have any clue. Hy Moshe; The question that you pose, is the traditional one, "should I buy now, or wait until I need it". It has been around for many generations, and there is NO simple answer. There are good arguments for both sides............. Having said that, I can give you my experience of the past 40 years in the business. That being "buy now"...... The reasoning is very simple, you are in all probability eligible (by reason of Health) to BUY Life Insurance today. Whereas there is the possibility that at the time that you want/need that Life Insurance policy, you may "N O T " be eligible, or at least LESS eligible (higher cost) due to some change in Health. Next we come to the question of which TYPE of L/I policy to buy....... Many would say to purchase a 10 yr. or possibly a 20 yr. TERM policy which is EXTREMELY cheap at your age, and then convert it to a Permanent Policy (U/L or W/L) when you get older. I personaly would vote against that concept. I am in agreement with your "financial planner" as to the "TYPE" of contract to buy at this time, Universal Life, ( DEFINETLY NOT Variable Universal Life). The Annual premium for U/L would be MUCH higher than the one for TERM, but the major difference would be that it would or could stay the SAME for the rest of your life, as you AGE. There are MANY other benefits to owning U/L vs Term, too many to go into here. Cal Lester CLU -- When my grandson asked me how old I was, I teasingly replied, "I'm not sure." "Look in your underwear, Grandma," he advised. "Mine says I'm four." This signature file is generated by Pick-a-Tag ! Written by jeroen[at]vanbaarsel.net |

| Remember, anyone can call themselves a "Financial Planner." Most likely, you spoke to an insurance salesperson. Life Insurance is for those who are dependent upon your income, and would need the income replaced if you died. If no one is dependent upon your income (not married, no kids etc.) then most likely, you do not need life insurance. | Hi, I spoke to finacial planner about investments. He says I should start with a life insurance policy. I told him I don't need one now, but will in like ten years. Still, he says, I should get it now so that the rates will be lower even later. He wants me to get a universal life plan. I am worried that he just wants to sell me a policy now to make some $$$. My question is: At the end of the day, say in 30 years, will I have saved money in the long run by getting insurance now as he says, or will I have saved myself $$$ by waiting, although I was not covered? I am 25 years old, non-smoker and in good health, thank g-d. Thanks so much! -- Moshe Rosenberg |
