There is no cost savings by you paying the premium. The insured
generally has to sign the application, so unless Mom says 'okay' then
you'll have to abide by her wishes. At her age, life insurance isn't
cheap, but it isn't expensive, either.

Your mom is probably correct, if all she needs is enough to bury her.
She can likely set it up so that she's paid for those expenses in advance.
If you think it will not be enough, why not take what would be the cost of
the premiums you'd have to pay and set up a separate account to be used
for that purpose. Having said that, you may be able to obtain a policy if
you can show what is defined an "insurable interest". Check with the rules
for your state. Any insurance person you trust should be able to properly
respond.

Default Life insurance for mother

How easy it is for a daughter to take out life insurance on her
mother? My mom is 70, and doesn't seem to think she needs life
insurance, She only has about $5,000 in the bank and she seems to
think that if anything ever happened to her, that would pay for all
costs, etc. I am really nervous about it. I know part of the problem
is that she just can't afford life insurance, so i thought I would
look into getting it for her, but not sure, since she is not a spouse
or child, if I could take it out for her. I'm pretty sure if i asked
her to take it out and I would pay for it, she would say no, though I
am guessing it would be cheaper to it that way. Any suggestions on how
to go about this?
