You really need professional advice fron an accountant on this: each
European country has different rules re tax and retirement savings
(and they are changing all the time).

Even though you do not pay US tax on your 401k, you might find that in
Europe you are required to pay tax on it.

Default Returning to Europe

I plan to return to Europe in about 5 years - I expect to have at
least $200K in 401k by that time. I will no longer be able to
contribute to my 401k after that. I have had investments in the past
where I have contributed a good chunk of cash and it has been eaten by
fees because I did not continue with it/

Also, is there a viable or equivalent European version of the 401k?

Any advice much appreciated.
