| Ron, the problem that you are experiencing is "beaurocratic", NOT Life Insurance company oriented. In most cases, the Insurance company wants to get the claim settled as quickly as possible, since they are REQUIRED to pay interest on the proceeds, from the date of death to the date of payment. I would suggest that you INSIST on speaking to a SUPERIOR of the people that you have been speaking to. He/she may get is paid sooner. | How long does it typically take for life insurance to payout to the beneficiaries? When my father, a govt worker, died it was all settled and done in 30 days or less. Right now my mom, another govt worker, passed away and the govt is telling me that it'll take 3 weeks to get the forms to me because they're backed up, but that I can download them online. So I downloaded them and called the life insurance group in the govt and they told me that although I could send in the forms I downloaded, I should just wait for the same forms to be mailed to me because they don't get notified of my mom's death until the forms are sent to me so there's nothing they could do anyhow. The lady actually seemed surprised that it would take only 3 weeks for me to receive the forms. Actually I was expecting payment in 3 weeks! Meanwhile I have to pay her mortgage, etc. Am I wrong or does this smell like something is wrong? I thought one of the points of life insurance was to protect assets in the event of death. If it takes too long for the payout, then this isn't possible. THank god I'm not a housewife with 3 kids to feed, but I still need to protect my mom's assets from foreclosure etc while take care of my own assets. How long has it typically taken other people to receive a payout on life insurance? I'm particularly interested in those with federal govt life insurance, but private industry would make for a good benchmark. Thanks. |
